ForumThe Forum is Mothers & More’s 20-page, quarterly member publication. The Forum is written by, for and frequently about members. It serves three important purposes to serve our members and further our mission and beliefs: Organizational InformationThe Forum is the one means of communication that reaches every member. While we may use direct emails to members and our member email loops to communicate important, timely organizational information, the Forum is where we provide more in-depth information, the progress and outcomes of Mothers & More projects and activities, and how we convey materials and information about board elections and other matters that require a member vote or member input. It’s also where we highlight what Mothers & More is up to locally, via our chapter events and programs. Informative Articles Regarding Mothers’ IssuesThe first step in improving the lives of mothers starts with educating ourselves about and understanding the issues mothers face in the paid workplace, in terms of social and cultural perceptions and expectations, and in regard to economic risks and barriers. Every issue of the Forum features an article about mothers’ needs and interests which call on our own members’ experiences and/or an interview with the people who are thinking about, writing about and working on the issues that impact mothers’ lives. Members also have opportunities to respond to each piece, giving their opinions and perspective. Read a sample interview. Personal EssaysOur member written features and essays are both an enjoyable read and a great way for members to get involved. The Forum has been an outlet and a springboard for members to stretch their literary wings. For most members, it’s simply been a great place to express their emotional experiences as mothers and share their personal stories. For some, it has been the first step toward professional writing. And members who are already writers by profession find the Forum a great outlet as well. |
