Frequently Asked QuestionsWho joins Mothers & More? Who joins Mothers & More? Mothers & More provides services that meet the needs of mothers who are
by choice or circumstance altering their participation in the paid
workplace over the course of their active parenting years. We have moms
who have left fulltime employment to be at home with their children fulltime.
Moms working parttime outside the home, and moms starting up their
own businesses. Moms packing
a full week's paid work into four days, and moms transitioning back to
fulltime paid employment. Moms working from home, and moms pursuing further
education. Moms join us because all of these various shifts in the role
of paid work in their lives have an impact on them personally, and they
are looking to connect with other mothers in similar situations. What is sequencing?Mothers & More represents women who by choice or circumstance alter their participation in the paid workplace over the course of their active parenting years. We recognize the needs of the growing number of mothers who move in and out of paid employment and/or opt for a variety of flexible work arrangements in order to successfully balance their work and family responsibilities. This fluid work pattern, which occurs over a number of years and at various stages of motherhood, is known as sequencing. The term sequencing was coined by Arlene Rossen Cardozo in her 1986 book, Sequencing Does Sequencing Follow a Specific Pattern? Not all sequencing women make identical decisions. Some mothers leave paid employment entirely and spend a number of months or years at home fulltime. Others pursue volunteer work or continue working for pay but opt for flexible work options including parttime, flextime, flexplace, job sharing, and homebased businesses. Regardless of the many individual ways to combine paid employment and motherhood, sequencing women are united by common experiences which include, either by choice or necessity, adapting their work arrangements to better accommodate the responsibilities of family care. How can I find a Mothers & More chapter near me?Go to the local chapter map and click on your state. You will find links to maps and Web sites (when available) for all local chapters. What if there is no chapter in my area?Your annual membership dues of $45 provides you with a subscription to our 24page bimonthly publication, The Forum, and a connection to other Mothers & More members online—and the opportunity, if you wish, to start up a local chapter. Visit our Members Only area for details on how to start a chapter, or contact our national headquarters. Can I attend meetings without becoming a member? You are welcome to attend up to three chapter meetings as a guest. After that, we hope you'll decide to join us as a member. All other chapter activities are for members only. Can I take my child to meetings?Mothers & More encourages our members to view chapter meetings as opportunities to focus on themselves as individuals, apart from the demands of family. For some mothers, this is a rare opportunity to spend time socializing away from home without children. We realize, however, that for some mothers and infants a separation of several hours is difficult. Our current policy is to let each chapter decide whether or not young babies (usually under six months) are allowed to accompany mothers to chapter meetings. Check with your local chapter for guidelines. Children are always welcome at kids' activities, of course, and every chapter offers motherandchild playgroups. Most other activities, including moms' nights out, book discussion groups, etc., are for mothers only. How do I enter the Members Only area?Check the mailing label on the back of your most recent issue of The Forum. Your username is your membership expiration month and year, located in the upper right corner of the mailing label. Your password is located just to the left of your expiration date. Please type the username and password exactly as seen on your mailing label. (Both are casesensitive, so watch those uppercase and lowercase letters!) |
