Mothers at Work

Campaign Blog

Entering motherhood is a bit like entering a construction zone -- where plans/paths are engineered, detoured, slowed down, off-ramped; where the work is vital to the growth and interests of all; and where the workers need the support and cooperation of each other and the larger community to get the job done!

Individual Bloggers

  • Deb - Deb is a stay-at-home mother residing in MA with her husband and two young daughters. She also has a son who is currently serving in the military. Special interests include learning about the issues that affect mothers at societal level and tying them into the day-to-day activities of family life. She feels educating ourselves so that we can make informed decisions is the best way to empower ourselves and our families.
  • Joy - Joy has been a member of Mothers & More for 17 years.  She has two children; a daughter who is 20 and a son who is 17.  She has been grateful for the circle of family, friends and Mothers & More that kept her afloat for the past two years as she navigated through the rapids of life; first kid leaves for college, second kid develops obsessive/compulsive disorder, marriage of 24 years ends in divorce.
  • Leslie - 11 years ago Leslie was a single mom working overtime trying to support two special-needs kids. Today Leslie hasn't received a paycheck in nearly 5 years, is married, and has added 2 more kids to the mix. Leslie's eldest, a boy who turns 18 in June, has severe ADHD. Her second, a 14-year-old girl, has spina bifida and mild mental retardation. Her third is a boy who turns 5 in May. And the fourth is a boy who turns 1 in June. When she worked for money, Leslie was a software engineer and did some technical writing. She is 42 years old and lives in Texas.
  • Rachel - Before I stayed home to raise twin boys, 3, I did work as a newspaper copy editor and designer for five years and before that job, I was an editorial assistant at a publishing company for two years. I've been married for four and half years. I have been a member of Mothers & More for two and half years. I love to write and am trying to find a career where I can combine writing and raising my sons from home!
  • One Driven Mama - This blogger is a long time member of Mothers & More. She has two children, one nearly a tween and one nearing pre-K. All her life she was inspired by the life stories of her foremothers. Many of them were ahead of their time, and some were penalized for being mothers. She is determined that her children will not grow up to a "Hobson's Choice," in caring for themselves and their families. May their options be many and may the work they have be work that they love - whether paid or unpaid.
