Last I checked many companies want their employees to be in the building. Google, and gasp!, even Apple, are creating enticing work spaces so employees come into the office. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57570916-93/google-flexes-its-googleplex-with-planned-expansion/ and http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57508947-37/blueprints-give-peek-inside-apples-new-hq/.
My husband worked remotely for years with Paypal (owned by eBay) and found it depressing at times. He can work remotely with his current employer but finds he is much more effective at the office. Understanding directions and priorities is much cleaner accompanied by body language as well as voice and text.

I have worked in a virtual office for years and when people don’t return emails and calls, I can’t get up and walk down the hall to get an answer. There are benefits to the working remotely such as when I work late at night.

Working remotely should be a privilege, not a right. And if a company feels there are some employees abusing that privilege, then they should revoke it.

I have an issue with Mothers & More attacking Marissa Mayer, but not Steve Jobs, or other male CEOs who have made decisions like this. And why are we criticizing her for returning to work 2 weeks after having her baby? It seems that violates many of the beliefs of Mothers & More – http://www.mothersandmore.org/About_Us/Mission_And_Beliefs.php.
