Planning for Moms’ Night Out
“What should we do,” is such a simple question, but often I can’t think on the spot.
When I look on the calendar and see one of those rare we don’t have any family plans weekends, I begin to create several “backup” plans, or items on the honey-do list knowing my husband isn’t one to sit still for long. At 3, my older son has taken to asking me what we are doing today at breakfast. Even at this young age he knows there’s always something on mom’s agenda, even if we are just taking a walk, heading to the grocery store or making crafts on a rainy day.
Perhaps that’s why I’m intimidated and excited for my Mothers & More yearly planning meeting. Once a year every member of the chapter is invited to a dinner where members brainstorm on activities, events and topics for the monthly Moms’ Night Outs. We have a nice size chapter and this is one of the bigger events.
Moms’ Night Outs are those few precious hours when we escape our work, home, children and husband to engage in girl talk, swap motherhood stories and maybe learn a few things along the way. We’ve learned how to make great appetizers, new techniques for eating right and how to bring the romance back into our lives. We’ve packed food for Feed My Starving Children, gone bowling and learned to paint like Vincent Van Gough.
The planning dinner is just a few weeks away and already I’m brainstorming so that I can come to the table with a few plans in my pocket.
After the planning session, all of the ideas are put in lists forms and then, every member gets a few weeks to vote on their favorite ideas. The gals in charge of Moms’ Night Out then review the top ideas and see if they can turn them into events. It’s such a fun process and what better way than to take charge and answer that timed old question, “What should we do?”
